In Ravenna you can breathe Art, History and Culture. Recognized throughout the world for its historical and artistic beauties, the city preserves the richest patrimony of mosaics dating back to between the 5th and 6th centuries AD. inside its splendid early Christian and Byzantine religious buildings, declared World Heritage Sites by Unesco.
Going through its historic center on foot or by bicycle is like reliving a millenary history that, starting from the Roman era, goes through the Renaissance period and reaches up to the nineteenth century, when the city was rediscovered by famous visitors such as Lord Byron, Oscar Wilde, Sigmund Freud and Gustav Klimt.

DANTE IN RAVENNA

Dante in Ravenna, an opportunity to discover the vicissitudes that characterized the last years of the Supreme Poet: exile, life in the city, death and the daring fight for the remains, as well as the interventions to enhance the tomb that followed one another during the centuries.

This tour will take you to discover the Basilica of San Francesco, the place where Dante Alighieri’s funeral took place and in the Zone of Silence, where his tomb is still located today.

You will enter the multifunctional space of Casa Dante, recently inaugurated thanks to the collaboration with the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and the Classense Library in Ravenna.

The guided tour will end with a further entrance to the Dante Museum, the historic museum site of the city which, with a multimedia rearrangement that took place in May 2021, is the main guardian of Dante’s history that our city has preserved for centuries.

MOSAIC RITROVATO

The Ravenna of Mosaic Ritrovato, a journey to discover two custodian places of the ancient art of mosaics, of which Ravenna is the capital: the TAMO Museum, where it will be possible to admire important mosaic finds of late antiquity, such as the decorations of the Church of San Severo, and more recent productions, such as Dante’s works exhibited in the dedicated section.

Particular interest will however be reserved for the floor mosaics of which the second site to which the guided tour is dedicated is also characterized: the Domus of the Stone Carpets. Discovered in 1993, the ancient late Roman domus is an exceptional example of the conservation of the private floor decorations typical of the time.

DISCOVER CLASSE

Classe, an ancient Roman port city, later a military outpost of the Constantinople fleet on the Mediterranean.

The guided tour will first take you to the Classis Museum, set up in the rooms of the former Ravenna sugar factory, which is characterized as an archaeological museum through which you can discover the development of the city over the centuries. A museum capable of allowing important insights into the society and life of the time.

The tour will continue with a visit to the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe, a famous example of early Christian mosaic art, where the saint’s remains initially found rest.

Discover Classe is a tour that will allow you to explore the places that characterized the cradle of Ravenna.
